Change the behaviour.

Reactivity, noise phobia, separation anxiety, nail-clipping battles or any other problem behaviour aren’t disobedience. They’re communication. I help you read what your dog is telling you and rebuild calm. Step by gentle step. Online and in person.

THIS IS WHERE I CAN HELP

When everyday life with your dog feels hard

Behaviour problems are rarely about a “stubborn” dog. They are stress, fear or unmet needs showing up in the only language your dog has. That language can be translated — and changed.

fear

Reactivity

Barking, lunging or freezing at other dogs, people, bikes or traffic — walks that feel like a minefield.

How we work on it: We map your dog’s triggers and thresholds, then use desensitisation and counter-conditioning at a pace your dog can actually cope with.

Noise Phobia

Trembling, hiding, panting or panic when fireworks, thunder or household sounds strike.

How we work on it: A tailored sound-desensitisation plan, safe-space setup and — where needed — collaboration with your vet on supportive medication.

Separation anxiety

Separation Anxiety

Howling, destruction or house-soiling within minutes of you leaving — and the guilt that follows you out the door.

How we work on it: Structured, gradual alone-time training built around your dog’s actual threshold, with clear daily exercises and honest progress tracking.

Paw lift

Fear & Anxiety

A dog who startles easily, avoids people or places, shuts down in new situations — or seems worried by the world.

How we work on it: We identify what your dog finds unsafe and rebuild confidence gradually through choice, predictability and positive associations — never flooding or forcing.

WORKING TOGETHER

It starts with an evaluation - not a guess

Every dog and every situation is different, so at Life with a Dog we start with an evaluation consultation. Afterwards, I recommend a package that genuinely fits your dog’s problem and you get 14 days to decide if you want to continue. An immediate action plan is always given after the first consultation.

1. Evaluation Consultation

We meet (online or in person) for a thorough behaviour history and ethological assessment of your dog.

2. Personal Recommendation

Based on the evaluation, I recommend the package that fits your dog’s problem — no more, no less.

3. We Work The Plan

Consultations, The Fundamentals course, homework and unlimited support — at the depth you and your dog needs.

The price for a 90-minute evaluation consultation is 2979SEK plus TAX ( transportation fee for home visits, 25SEK per mile).

The price will be deducted if you choose a package within 14 days after the initial consultation.

Programmes are individually tailored — home visits, video follow-ups, The Fundamentals course, written plans and unlimited email support are combined at the depth your dog needs. Structure and pricing are always presented in your personal proposal, after the evaluation.

Solid knowledge changes everything — whether you want to prevent problems before they start, or solve a specific struggle like nail care.

MSc Ethology Charlotte Friis Vargas

Hi, I'm Charlotte

For over ten years I’ve helped families understand why their dogs do what they do — and how to change it kindly. My background is in ethology: the science of natural animal behaviour. That means I don’t just look at the problem behaviour; I look at the whole dog, and the whole life around them. I work force free – lasting change comes from safety and trust, never from fear.

Testimonials

When we moved back home to Sweden after several years in the USA, we brought our two dogs, Oscar and Charlie, with us. They are both former shelter dogs, Charlie was insecure and afraid of loud noises, Oscar, who is a bigger dog, got very stressed by new situations and meetings. The journey across the Atlantic was also very stressful for both dogs. I  am extremely grateful that I found Charlotte, Life with a Dog. Charlotte helped us set up a great training schedule that is fun and positive for both the dogs and us. Above all, she taught us to understand our dogs and how to communicate better. By using Charlotte’s techniques, today we have two happy and somewhat calmer:) dogs. Charlotte is amazing, amazingly knowledgeable, super nice and patient. I highly recommend her to anyone lucky enough to have a dog.

“Incredibly good and professional help with your dog. Our dog Zelda felt safe with Charlotte right from the beginning. We sought help with our one-year old Amstaff, who had been treated badly in her previous homes. It has given her trauma and fear of people in particular. After various training methods, we finally found Life with a Dog and methods that worked for our dog. After only four/five meetings, I already felt better as a dog owner and the training gives good results. Highly recommended!”

Tobias

We are extremely satisfied with the course “Life with a reactive dog”. Notice a big difference in our dog’s behaviour and relationship with us and with other people and dogs. In addition, we have gained knowledge and tools to know how we should be and train. Charlotte’s knowledge and ability to see, listen, train, give advice and feedback is absolutely superb. Can really recommend Charlotte! Many thanks for all the help and knowledge!”

Hjalte

“We were lucky to have consultations with Charlotte for our dog Eli. Eli is a stray dog from Greece that came to our family last summer. Before starting our consultations, Eli was a really scared insecure dog. Charlotte helped us to create a strong bonding with Eli, to be able to understand her needs, and to create routines and activities for fun. In all our consultations, we focus of the body signals of Eli, and we tried to boost her confidence and create a relationship of trust. Also, she helped us a lot with teaching her basic commands in order to communicate with her better with extra focus on positive reinforcement. Charlotte is extremely professional, well educated, and ready to help and assist any dog behavoiur and occasion. We are really happy about our collaboration with Charlotte and we strongly recommend her.”

FROM THE BLOG

Small reads, big understanding

Short articles about dog behaviour, scientific finds in the dog behaviour world, body language and general life with a dog – written the way I work: force-free and evidence-based.

To Greet Or Not To Greet

Have you ever gotten the advice to not greet your dog when you come home? To simply ignore it and then move on with your day? Or are you having a petting party with your dog every time you return home?

Here is what science has to say about greeting your dog when you come home.

The Truth About Dominance In Dogs

Dogs do not form rigid dominance hierarchies with humans, and believing they do leads to training methods that actually cause aggression. Here is what science says about what dominance really means, and why it does not apply to your relationship with your dog.

The Meaning Of A Bark

Your dog’s bark is not random noise — it is a finely tuned signal shaped by thousands of years of domestication to communicate with you. Ethologists have discovered that humans can decode a dog’s emotional state from the acoustics of their bark alone. Here’s what the science of barking reveals about what your dog is really trying to say.

The Dangers Of Collars

Walks are good for both our and our dog’s mental and physical health and is a great way for us to bond with our dog. A leash is most often attached to the dog’s collar or harness when out on a walk. In this blog we look into the effects a collar can have on our dogs both physiologically and behaviourally.
